2011 JNBS MASTERS LEAGUE ROUND 13 REPORT

TELECOM MAUL EASTERN 7-0 21.9.2011 – Telecom Strikers booked their place in the JNBS masters league quarter-finals last Sunday when they whipped Eastern 7-0 at Barbican oval. Delroy Watson scored a hat-trick for Telecom.

In the Barbican feature game, hosts Barbican completed their dominance over zone A with an easy 2-0 win over Harbour View as Denton Shedden got his league leading 16th goal of the season.

Park Rovers smashed Kingston Commissioners 5-1 as both Rovers and Kingston joined Barbican and Telecom as the four zone A quarter-finalists.

Constant Spring cemented their hold on zone B with a 2-0 shutout win over Police Nationals at Constant Spring oval. Police Nationals entered the game as the only undefeated team in the "group of death", and needed to win or draw to claim a spot in the quarter-finals. However, the loss to Spring eliminated them from the play-offs, and relegated the Nationals to 6th place in zone B.

Brown's Town snatched a place in the quarter-finals from zone B when they out scorer Portmore Masters 3-2 at Vauxhall oval.  Lion Kings kept their play-off hope alive with a 3-1 win over Packers at Duhaney Park.

The last zone B quarter-final spot will be decided on Saturday, September 24, when Real Mona tackles Christian Ambassadors in a rescheduled game at Bell Chung oval (4:00 pm). A win or a draw for the Ambassadors will see them through to the play-offs, while a loss will give Lion Kings a place in the quarter-finals.

In other round 13 games, MV Exodus registered their first win of the season with a 6-1 bashing of Washington Strikers. Richard Carey bagged a triple while Devon Wilson had a brace for the winners.

The KSAMLA showcase event, the 2011 JNBS mid-season final for the Peter Cargill Cup, will be contested on Sunday, September 25 at Buttercup Park at 4:00 pm. Zone A champions Barbican will meet zone B champions Constant Spring in a repeat of last year's mid-season final which was won by Barbican.

In a 3:00 pm curtain-raiser, the KSAMLA Grand Masters tackle the Golden League All Stars in a game for over-45 players.

Gordon Murphy (Golden League)

Former St. George's masters manager, Francis Holung, has been chosen as the 2011 JNBS Masters League Patron. Holung, a former St. George's College All-Manning goalkeeper, was the manager/player for St. George's Old Boys masters for over ten years, and has made a tremendous contribution to the masters league before his retirement in 2009. The 2010 Patron of the masters league was Hylton Cobran of Real Mona.
